AGGRENOX Effectiveness

AGGRENOX prevents twice as many strokes as aspirin

Aspirin is the most widely used antiplatelet drug because of its effectiveness and low cost. Aspirin work even better in combination with other antiplatelet drugs.

The proven effectiveness of AGGRENOX

The combination of low-dose aspirin and extended-release dipyridamole in AGGRENOX was studied in the largest stroke prevention trial ever: The Second European Stroke Prevention Study (ESPS 2).

A total of 6,602 ischemic stroke or TIA patients in 13 Western European countries were studied over 2 years.

The study found:

  • AGGRENOX prevented twice as many strokes as aspirin
  • AGGRENOX was highly effective at preventing stroke in patients with common vascular diseases including high blood pressure and heart disease
  • AGGRENOX prevented more than twice as many fatal and nonfatal ischemic events (stroke, heart attack) as aspirin alone

As a result, AGGRENOX is recommended as a first-line treatment option for reducing the risk of stroke after TIA/stroke by:

  • National Stroke Association
  • American Heart Association
  • American College of Chest Physicians
